LIEFO brings together stakeholders committed to the preservation, management, and transmission of family wealth in Europe.
Members belong to one of four categories, reflecting the diversity of family structures and their organisational models.
1. Single Family Office (SFO)
A Single Family Office is a private structure created for a single family to centralise the management of its overall wealth—financial, real estate, entrepreneurial, or philanthropic.
The SFO embodies an integrated, confidential, and professional approach to wealth management, serving exclusively the interests of the founding family.
It acts as a vector of continuity and governance, supporting the transmission of the family’s values and capital across generations.
2. Family Holding Company
A family holding company is a company owned and controlled by a single family, whose mission is to hold, manage, and develop the family’s economic and financial assets.
It serves as a long-term vehicle dedicated to preserving capital, supporting intergenerational transmission, and strengthening family governance.
The family holding company may rely on external advisers while maintaining decision-making autonomy within the family circle.
3. A Multi-Branch Family Holding
A multi-branch family holding company brings together the patrimonial interests of several branches originating from the same family.
It ensures the management and coordination of a shared asset base or joint investments, fostering cohesion and balance among branches.
Its purpose is to promote shared and sustainable governance, supported by mechanisms such as a family charter, a family council, or management committees.
4. Multi Family Office (MFO)
A Multi Family Office is an independent and professional structure that provides multiple families with wealth, financial, legal, and strategic management services comparable to those of a Single Family Office, but within a shared framework.
Its purpose is to offer high-level expertise while ensuring independence, transparency, and long-term continuity.
The MFO is characterised by its service to several families and, in most European countries, by its status as a regulated activity.
